Feeling the Power of Prayer

by Duncan Brown Are you a prayer warrior? Have you seen prayer work? Many of us have, and we all have stories to tell. A friend had a cancerous tumor. We all prayed for God to intervene. Then he went in to the hospital to have it removed, and the surgeon was shocked when he found the tumor no longer there. A Christian brother lost his job and he and his family were about to lose their home due to bankruptcy. Suddenly a company called with a job offer, a job he had interviewed for a year before. All because faithful prayer warriors called out to God. We have all seen it. But have you ever physically felt the power of prayer? I have, and it blew me away. In 2000 my beautiful wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. We were floored. Why her? There was no history of cancer in her family. We prayed for a miracle. It didn’t come. So on to surgery and chemo treatments. A friend from my reunion group told us that he had done some tracking and we were being prayed for in at least 28 states and several countries. The operations were successful, but the chemo was exhausting. One morning, I sat on the edge of the bed and prayed, “God, I can’t do this. I’m too tired.” Suddenly I felt people on either side of me tucking their arms under mine and lifting me to my feet. They said “Don’t worry, Duncan, we have you. We will carry you through the day.” The thing is, I was in my room alone. I was being physically lifted up by the power of prayer. Since then I have never doubted that prayers are effective. Though we didn’t get the miracle we had wanted, we did get the ones God intended for us. The Sunday after the last chemo treatment, I was approached by three different men whose wives had just been diagnosed with breast cancer. A coincidence? I don’t think so.  Gail and I were able to mentor all three couples through the process of treatment and healing because God had given us the tools. The other miracle is that Gail is cancer-free 18 years later. God didn’t give us cancer. He did use it to bring support to others and glory to Himself. Father truly knows best. DeColores
