Some People Just Don’t Follow Directions . . . But God Understands

By Patti Jo Bach Once when I was rector, I assigned a few musicians to lead a serenade for the women on the weekend. I thought about what songs would be meaningful and suggested them. But I gave a definite request for the ending song to be “I love you with the love of the Lord, yes I love you with the love of the Lord. I can see in you the glory of my King and I love you with the love of the Lord.” I made this clear to the man who was leading the serenade and to my husband who would be with them. So you can imagine how surprised I was when they ended with “Jesus loves you, this I know, for the Bible tells me so, little ones to Him belong, they are weak but He is strong.” Well, I accepted this as God’s doing, since the longer I serve in His ministries, the more I am certain that He has a reason for everything. So wouldn’t you know, at closing service, one sweet lady stood up to tell what the three days had meant to her. She said “my parents abandoned me when I was little, but when I heard the child’s song “Jesus loves me,” I felt a new peace come over me. It was as if Father was putting His arms around me and gently whispering, “I have always taken care of you because you are mine.” Of course there was no lack of tears and gratitude for His sovereignty in all things.                                       Patti Jo welcomes your comments.
