Checklist - Establishing a New Tres Dias Community
(Including Legal/IRS/Tax Check Points)

The following steps need to be completed (generally in this order) as part of the formation of a new community.

Pray (wait for an answer).

 


Notify Tres Dias International (MembershipVP@TresDias.org).

 


Form Steering Committee.

 


Enter into an Emerging Community Agreement with Tres Dias International and your sponsoring community.

 


Prepare by-laws (Include IRS mandated language in your bylaws).  Send by-laws to Tres Dias International.

 


Form Legal Entity (e.g. Not-For-Profit Corporation or other legal entity … formation may require legal counsel depending on the state).

 


Obtain tax ID number from the IRS.

 


Complete IRS Form 1023 and submit to the IRS with checklist form and user fee. The IRS determination letter may take 6 months or more.

 


Submit Copy of IRS determination letter to Membership Committee of Tres Dias International.

 


Obtain state tax exemption (sales and income if applicable) which may require IRS determination letter.

 

 

Agree with sponsoring community and TDI Membership Vice President that the community is ready to be chartered.
